Magnolia susan
Large winter-spring-flowering shrub with huge deep purple-pink buds that open into pale pink two-tone blooms, with a slight twist to each petal to give a sense of movement. Starts flowering at an early age, and with lots of flowers, so you won't have to wait long to enjoy this beautiful deciduous tree.

APPEARANCE : Feature shrub with very large spring blooms which usually appear on bare branches before the leaves. Goblet shaped, large, deep maroon pink buds, pale pink inside the petals.

USES: Perfect specimen tree, also suited to large containers. Susan has an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.

PLANTING: Sunny or partly shaded position with morning or afternoon sun. Shelter from strong winds, early frosts, and exposed sites. Cold hardy to -20C. Prefer rich acid to neutral loam with lots of organic matter. They don't like being relocated, so site carefully with their mature size in mind. Autumn-winter is the best time to plant before they put on leaf growth.

CARE: Provide plenty of water during dry periods. Prune in midsummer if you need to reduce the size.
