Veronica spicata Royal Candles (Royal Candles Speedwell) is a favorite perennial and one of the showiest, longest blooming selections in this genus. A durable plant with a low, compact mat of attractive 2" long leaves, it puts on a stunning display of deep purple-blue flower spikes. 'Royal Candles' is easily cultivated in average garden conditions in sun to part sun locations. A standout bloomer, it colors the garden from late spring into mid-summer. Deadhead the faded flower spikes to show off the plant’s dark green foliage for the rest of the growing season. Cut back in spring. 'Royal Candles' makes a wonderful small scale groundcover or edging plant along sidewalks and paths. Try it with Penstemon pinifolius, Aquilegia or Nepeta. Great in containers too!
